Playing with strangers: settings worth changing first
Public lobbies can be great. A few minutes in the settings makes them better.

01Voice and text
Every platform lets you limit who can talk to you. Consider allowing voice only from friends at first, then widen it once you know a game's community.
02Block and report
Learn where the block and report buttons are before you need them. Blocking is instant and the other player is not told.
03Keep personal details private
Use a username that does not include your real name, age or town. Never share passwords or account codes, whatever the reason given.
04Spending limits
Some games sell cosmetics or premium currency. Set a spending limit or turn on purchase approval in your platform settings, especially on shared family consoles.
05Know when to step away
If gaming starts to get in the way of sleep, work or friends, talk to someone you trust. In the UK, Samaritans are available any time on 116 123.
